Learn about how social media can be used to engage your players and get an insight into how Discord bots can help to create a welcoming and inclusive environment for your community.

I) THROW YOUR GAME AT THE INTERNET AND SEE WHAT STICKS

Landfall’s irreverent games have been played by millions and garner deep community interaction. Landfall has always maintained a close connection to their community, and their use of social media is one of the reasons their games have made it big. Most recently, they’ve experienced great success showcasing their games on TikTok - gaining 875K+ followers in a year. Hanna will speak about Landfall’s approach to project selection, marketing, and community management and how their approach has been successful as a studio.

Hanna Fogelberg, Head of Community, Landfall Games

Hanna Fogelberg is the head of community at Landfall Games, an indie game studio from Stockholm, Sweden and the makers of Totally Accurate Battle Simulator, Stick Fight: The Game, Clustertruck, and more.

II) IT’S OUR HOUSE: USING CUSTOM DISCORD BOTS PRACTICALLY & JOYFULLY

Making your Discord more exclusive is not always a bad thing. 😎 In this talk, Marcela Huerta and Jacob Blommestein will review their evolving efforts to make the KO_OP Discord a fun, safer, and more welcoming space using custom bots. They’ll discuss ways they’ve leveraged automation to assist moderation and craft immersive meta experiences, community interactions, and unique narratives for fans of Goodbye Volcano High.

Marcela Huerta, Community Director, KO_OP

With her experience in event and literary community building, Marcela is an outsider to the gaming sphere, bringing a unique perspective to her work as a Community Director.

At KO_OP, she strives to create inclusive spaces for queer and BIPOC gamers and devs. Her goal in marketing KO_OP as a company is to champion the games they make and the individuals who make them. She is also the author of Tropico, a 2017 poetry and creative non-fiction collection from Metatron Press.

Jacob Blommestein, Software Developer, KO_OP

Jacob works as a developer specializing in tools, networking and audio programming. He switched to a co-op games studio from a more traditional corporate software track and is very happy doing so. At KO_OP, he feels the motivations and structure of the work have a much more positive impact and footprint compared to the tech industry as a generalization.

Together with Marcela and Ramona, they’ve explored neat ways to try and adapt modern social media into neat little narrative experiences.
